I'm at least 80% sure I've read this on your tumblr, but I still read it again because I absolutely agree with literally everything you said here. I particularly love how it's just a silly little story, not an epic tale of grandeur and foe-defeating. You're right— it is just human! Captain Marvel going skinny dipping on a whim and getting his suit stolen? Fucking GOLD! No wonder he dominated the comic book industry at the time. 100% agree with the appeal of the more vivid dichotomy of Billy and Marvel. Seeing them work together in this issue (and in other Golden Age issues, too!) is always so fun. Have to cut this short, unfortunately :( Loved this whole review (and all the others, but I'll hopefully say some things about them later, cause I've got a thing or two on my mind :). Also, definitely encouraged me to pick up (metaphorically) Booster Gold's solo) !! It's always a joy to read something by someone who shares the same love I do for him cause I can go "you are so right about him" as I read it.

I spent that summer I wrote this reviewing like-- everything I could of Captain Marvel's Golden Age stuff. There's an issue in there I'd still like to write a review about because it's so incredibly different from everything surrounding it, though I haven't yet. (I might, though, between issues of BB and BG!)

Booster's first solo is very worth a read. There are flaws in it, and not a few, but it's the genesis of one of my favorite comic book characters of all time and especially when read in the context of his later stuff -- and in context of his actual life on that side of the fourth wall -- it's filled with fascinating moments. I'm looking forward to reviewing the next issue of Booster's book (just wrapping up Ted's #2 this evening, which goes out Monday) because it has some truly excellent character beats, even as I'm still laughing my ass off about the cover and opening panels. I'm also trying to best figure out how to discuss why I feel Booster comes across queer from essentially his outset with sources cited, but I'll burn that bridge when I get there. XD
